Your practitioner

Xenia Kempf

MSN, Nurse Practitioner. Registered with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives.

I've specialized in hormone therapy for years, running a hormone and functional medicine practice in Texas before bringing that care to British Columbia.

I treat hormones as part of the whole person: sleep, metabolism, thyroid, stress. Every patient leaves understanding their own results, not just holding a prescription.

What to expect

Treatment plan expectations

Hormone therapy works best with steady follow-up. Here is what your first year, and the years after it, look like.

01 · Follow-up schedule

First check-in at about 2 months

After your initial visit and the start of your personalized plan, we'll schedule a follow-up in approximately 2 months. Ongoing follow-ups typically occur every 2 to 6 months, depending on your symptoms and how you're responding to therapy.

02 · Your prescriptions

Approved bioidentical hormones

We prescribe Health Canada-approved bioidentical hormones, filled at local or online pharmacies, and use compounded preparations only when clinically necessary. We do not use pellets, and we avoid unnecessary compounding to keep treatment safe and cost-effective.

03 · Your first year
$825 CAD · up to 4 visits

Consistent follow-up is key to reaching your goals. You can expect up to 4 visits in the first year, totaling $825, often less than many membership models. Consider it an investment in your health and well-being, now and for the future.

04 · After year one

Labs and follow-ups every 6 months

After the first year, labs and follow-ups are recommended every 6 months to make sure your hormone levels stay in a safe range.

Questions

Good to know

Do I need to live in BC?

Yes. You need to be physically in British Columbia during each consultation. Anywhere in the province works.

Is hormone therapy safe?

For most women in perimenopause and menopause, appropriately prescribed hormone therapy has benefits that outweigh the risks, especially transdermal estradiol with micronized progesterone. For men, testosterone therapy is safe when it is properly indicated and monitored. Your personal and family history is reviewed in detail before anything is prescribed.

How is low testosterone diagnosed?

With symptoms plus at least two morning blood tests, along with LH, FSH, prolactin and other markers that help find the cause. A single low reading isn't enough to start therapy.

Will testosterone affect fertility?

It can. Testosterone therapy suppresses sperm production. If you want children now or in the future, we'll talk through fertility-sparing alternatives before starting.

Where are labs done?

At any LifeLabs or Dynacare location in BC. You'll receive a requisition after your consultation.

Will you replace my family doctor?

No. I focus on hormone care and work alongside your family doctor or NP, and can send them a summary with your permission.

Is this covered by MSP?

No. Consultations are private. Many extended health plans reimburse nurse practitioner visits.
